Inspector Nelson Abuante, a police officer with the Rivers State Police Command, is said to have shot and killed his colleague Monday Gbaramana. Abuante then took his own life.
Following a report from the suspect’s mother, the two officers, who were assigned to the Taabaa Division of the Command, went to arrest a man on Sunday at Nyogor-Lueku, in the Khana Local Government Area of the state.
It was learned that Akere Akpobari, the suspect, began to resist being taken into custody.
Due to the fight that resulted from his resistance, Abuante unintentionally shot Gbaramana.
Gbaramana was sent to the hospital right away. But it was reported that he died because the car taking them to the hospital ran out of petrol.
On the other hand, after his colleague’s death was officially declared, Abuante shot himself with his firearm.
The incident was confirmed by Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko.
“Both corpses have been deposited in the mortuary while the investigation is ongoing,” the spokesperson stated.
