Once again, the Nigerian military has expressed deep regret over the recent drone attack in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna, which resulted in casualties. In a press briefing held in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, conveyed the military’s commitment to improving operational protocols in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Gen. Buba stated, “We will learn from this experience and improve on our operational processes.” He reassured the public that the Nigerian military remains dedicated to conducting operations in compliance with international laws and rules of engagement.
Addressing concerns about potential lapses in inter-service coordination, Gen. Buba emphasized that military operations are conducted collaboratively nationwide, involving the army, navy, and air force. He dispelled notions that the lack of synergy contributed to the mishap, affirming the military’s commitment to addressing the incident comprehensively.
“In light of this incident, there will be a need for enhanced protocols and improved processes,” Gen. Buba declared. “We are determined to deal with it squarely, striving for near-zero occurrences in the future.”
On the matter of casualties, Gen. Buba refuted figures circulating in the media. According to community records, the death toll stands at 81, with approximately 70 individuals receiving treatment in hospitals. He dismissed claims of religious targeting as “faulty, erroneous, and unpatriotic,” cautioning against dangerous speculation during a challenging time for the nation.
Urging collaboration, the defence spokesman called on all Nigerians to support the military by providing useful information. “This assistance is crucial for carrying out operations without hitches,” he emphasized, highlighting the importance of a collective effort in ensuring national security and stability.
