The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, narrowly escaped death after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Abuja’s Wuse 2 area on Friday night.
Ezenwafor, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the nation’s capital, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday morning.

According to Ezenwafor, the attack occurred while he was on his way home from a private appointment. Two other individuals who were with him in the vehicle were also shot and are receiving medical attention. Doctors are preparing to perform surgery to remove bullets lodged in Ezenwafor’s body.
Details of the Incident
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Ezenwafor’s campaign has focused on transformative policies, including economic diversification, improved security, and infrastructure development ².
The PDP has yet to release an official statement, but party sources indicate growing unease about political violence in the region. Supporters of Ezenwafor have expressed solidarity, calling for swift action to ensure justice and enhanced security measures for candidates. The incident underscores the challenges facing Nigeria’s political landscape, with many hoping it will prompt renewed efforts to safeguard democratic process.
Ezenwafor remains stable, and his medical team is optimistic about his recovery. “I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate me so that they can pull out bullets from my body,” he said faintly from his hospital bed.
