The Abia State Police Command has made significant strides in its fight against crime, apprehending 245 suspects and rescuing multiple victims in a series of operations conducted between January and June 2025. The efforts, which also led to the recovery of illegal firearms, vehicles, and illicit drugs, underscore the command’s commitment to enhancing public safety across the state.

During a press briefing on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia, Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa detailed the achievements. The operations resulted in the arrest of 230 male and 15 female suspects, many of whom are now facing prosecution. Additionally, nine kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children were rescued, while a range of weapons, stolen property, and drugs were seized.

Among the high-profile cases, police arrested 35-year-old Chisom Chikwendu from Ngor Okpuala, Imo State, linked to a deadly April 4, 2025, attack on Chinese expatriates in Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA, which claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals and a police escort. Efforts to apprehend other suspects in the case are ongoing.

On June 24, 2025, the Intelligence Response Unit arrested three individuals—Eberechi Gift (17), Loveday Confidence (30), and Chukwudi Onyejwu (35)—connected to a kidnapping incident. Recovered items included a pump-action gun and live cartridges. In a separate anti-cultism raid in Ahuwa/Umuigu Oboro, Ikwuano LGA, 24 suspects allegedly tied to the “De Norseman K Club” were detained with a locally made pistol, machetes, and cult insignia.

In a particularly disturbing case, 41-year-old Onyebueze Emetu was arrested for the alleged defilement of a one-year-old girl in the Ekpiri Ala Ala Community. The suspect has confessed, and the child is receiving medical care. Additionally, three men—Ali Saidu (27), Yakubu Mohammed (20), and Adamu Isa (27)—were apprehended for attempting to rustle six cows in Ohiya, Umuahia South LGA.

The command’s recoveries include four AK-47 rifles, 15 locally made short guns, two Ruger rifles, one LAR rifle, one Scorpion pistol, 347 rounds of ammunition, four vehicles, two motorcycles, three tricycles, suspected cannabis, and various stolen items such as gas cylinders, phones, laptops, and industrial tools.

Commissioner Isa emphasized the command’s ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and the public, praising officers for their professionalism. “Security is a collective responsibility,” he stated. “We remain steadfast in ensuring Abia State is safe for all residents.”

The operations reflect a broader national effort to strengthen law enforcement and highlight the Abia Police Command’s proactive measures to dismantle criminal networks and protect citizens.
