A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Chidiebere J. Okoh, has raised a critical concern about the party’s recent influx of newcomers from other political parties. According to Chief Okoh, these new entrants may not necessarily be genuine APC supporters, but rather agents seeking to exploit the party’s current momentum for their own gain.
In a statement, Chief Okoh expressed his apprehension about the potential consequences of these newcomers on the party’s internal dynamics and long-term viability. He warned that some of these individuals might be “fifth columnists” who could undermine the party from within, posing a significant threat to its stability and success.

Chief Okoh specifically highlighted the risk of these newcomers being driven by opportunism rather than a genuine commitment to the party’s ideals. He suggested that some individuals might be paying lip service to the APC solely to benefit from President Tinubu’s leadership and the party’s current political influence. However, their true loyalties may still lie elsewhere, which could lead to divided interests and potential betrayal when the party faces challenges.
The APC chieftain emphasized the importance of distinguishing between genuine supporters and opportunistic newcomers. He urged the party leadership to prioritize the welfare and interests of long-standing members who have remained faithful to the party through both prosperous and challenging times.
Chief Okoh’s concerns are particularly relevant in the context of the upcoming 2027 elections, where the APC will face stiff competition from opposition parties. He stressed that the party’s loyal members, who have endured hardships and remained committed to the party’s cause, are its most valuable assets. These individuals are best positioned to defend the party against attacks and criticisms, and their dedication should be recognized and rewarded.
In light of these concerns, Chief Okoh called on the APC leadership to exercise caution when welcoming new members into the party. He advised the leadership to thoroughly vet newcomers to ensure their loyalty and commitment to the party’s principles. At the same time, he urged the leadership to prioritize the interests of loyal members who have been the backbone of the party’s support base.
By heeding Chief Okoh’s warning, the APC can safeguard its internal cohesion and ensure that its membership remains grounded in a shared commitment to the party’s values and ideals. Ultimately, the party’s success will depend on its ability to balance the influx of new members with the needs and concerns of its loyal supporters.
