The vibrant Ekpenibro Festival recently took place in Atan Abam, showcasing the community’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
The festival commemorates the ancient sea merchant trading route that connected Atan Abam to the British Navy and Customs in the 1860s, highlighting the community’s pivotal role in regional trade.


Attended by dignitaries, including H.E. Dr. Alex Otti (OFR), the festival featured colorful reenactments of historical events, celebrating the community’s pride and joy. Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, expressed gratitude to Chief Chijoke James Umeh, President of Unubiko Foundation, for organizing the event.
The festival served as a platform for cultural exchange, promoting unity and pride among community members. Chief Umeh’s efforts in preserving and showcasing Atan Abam’s heritage have earned appreciation from attendees and stakeholders alike.
