The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receipt of a petition seeking the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and signed by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, INEC stated that the petitioners’ contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses have now been provided.

As stipulated in Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, INEC has formally notified the Senator in question about the recall petition. A letter has also been sent to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on the Commission’s website.
The next step, according to INEC, is to scrutinize the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to verify that the petition has been signed by more than half (over 50%) of the registered voters in the constituency.
The Commission assured Nigerians that this verification process will be conducted in the coming days, with the outcome determining the next course of action. “We once again reassure Nigerians that the process will be open and transparent,” the statement concluded.
The recall process, if successful, could lead to a referendum where voters will decide whether the Senator should remain in office or be removed.
