It’s disheartening to see how easily we get distracted from the real issues plaguing Nigeria. The recent controversy surrounding VDM is a perfect example. Instead of focusing on pressing problems like increased data tariffs, lack of infrastructure, and rising transportation costs, we’re busy arguing over personalities and Mercy Chinwo’s suit. At the end of the day, after his initial gra-gra, VDM will apologize, and the pressing issues like the Senate drama and suspension and the skyrocketing cost of living will die down with it. On whose side is VDM?

We need to shift our attention to the issues that truly matter. Imagine if we had a functioning railway system, reliable electricity, and good roads? The #70,000 people paid for transportation from the North to the East during Christmas is appalling, especially when you consider that the same journey used to cost #4,500.
It’s time for us to come together, regardless of our ethnic backgrounds – Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, or others – and fight for a better Nigeria. We need to support our local inventors and entrepreneurs, like the pharmacist building a factory in Nigeria, and advocate for policies that promote economic growth and development, rather than focusing on social media distractions. If VDM is actually fighting for the masses as he claims, he should be fighting for positive change and not only raising controversies to distract us.
Let’s wake up, think right, and demand more from our leaders. We deserve better, and it’s time we start working towards a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.
