A Nigerian woman, who was falsely declared dead, recently made a dramatic appearance in a UK court via video call from Nigeria. Her goal was to prevent a fraudster from seizing her £350,000 London home.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, had been a victim of identity theft and fraud. A con artist had managed to obtain a fake death certificate, declaring her deceased, and then attempted to use this document to claim ownership of her London property.

Fortunately, the woman became aware of the scam and took swift action. She contacted the UK authorities and, with their assistance, was able to participate in a court hearing via video call from Nigeria.
During the hearing, the woman provided evidence to prove that she was, in fact, alive and the rightful owner of the property. The court ultimately ruled in her favor, dismissing the fraudster’s claim and ensuring that the woman’s home remained secure.
This remarkable case highlights the increasing sophistication of fraudsters and the importance of vigilance in protecting one’s assets. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of technology in facilitating justice, even across international borders.
