A frustrated commuter has taken to social media to express outrage over the exorbitant fare charged by a bus driver for a trip from Lagos to Enugu. The commuter claimed that the driver was charging a whopping N35,000 for a seat in a 13-seater bus, which translates to N455,000 for the entire bus.
The commuter argued that the driver’s profit margin was excessively high, estimating that the driver would spend around N100,000 on fuel and N20,000 on other expenses, leaving a profit of over N300,000 for a single journey.

While acknowledging that the driver would incur additional expenses such as oil changes, tire replacements, and mechanical work, the commuter argued that these costs could not justify the outrageous fare.
The commuter’s outburst highlighted the plight of many Nigerians who are forced to pay exorbitant transportation costs, with some buses charging fares of N45,000 or more. The commuter’s comment, “Na we de do ourselves for this country!!!”, suggests a sense of resignation and frustration with the system.
This incident has sparked a wider conversation about the need for regulation and accountability in the transportation sector, as well as the impact of inflation and economic hardship on ordinary Nigerians.
