Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has intensified his criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the government of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the party and the nation are facing an existential crisis of monumental proportions.
El-Rufai, who has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the APC, took to social media to express his concerns, saying that the party has abandoned its founding principles and is fostering poor leadership. He also described the current state of governance and opposition in the country as a “national emergency.”
The Presidency has responded to El-Rufai’s criticism, with the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, accusing El-Rufai of trying to unseat the government he helped to form. Bwala questioned whether El-Rufai would have expressed the same views if he were part of the government.
Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has also criticized El-Rufai, saying that the former governor practiced tyranny while in power and is now preaching democracy after leaving office.
El-Rufai’s criticism of the APC and the government has sparked a heated debate, with some Nigerians supporting his views and others criticizing him for speaking out against the party he helped to form.
