On January 1st, 2025, the Okon-Aku Christian Fellowship (OCF), led by His Lordship Bishop Dr. Stanley David, embarked on an ambitious initiative to revive education in Okon-Aku. This effort is part of a broader strategy by the community leadership to tackle insecurity, infrastructural decay, and social vices.
The community’s only secondary school, Okamu Secondary Commercial School, Okon-Aku, Ohafia, had been without teachers for over a decade, forcing students to seek education in neighboring communities. In response, the OCF declared an emergency on education and undertook to register all students for the 2025 WAEC exams.
The initiative has received widespread support from community leaders, including Eze Engr Ndukwe Iko, the Nnaka IV of Okon-Aku, who pledged a cash donation and vowed to support the OCF’s efforts. Ézèogo Bernard Igbomini Kama, the Ezie Ogo, also made a generous donation, emphasizing the need to extend the initiative to the community’s primary schools.
In response, the Chairman, Caretaker committee of Okon-Aku Development Union, Mr. Okorie Kama Arua revealed plans to renovate the school and enhance its entrance.
A major highlight of the event was the declaration of a 30- day prayer and fasting by the HRH Ezé Ndukwe Iko of Okon-Aku Autonomous for the entire community to be anchored by OCF to rededicate it to God and express gratitude for the restoration of peace and sanity in the land.
In a closing remark, the OCF President, Bishop Dr. David thanked the leadership of Okon-Aku Autonomous community for the unprecedented support and pledged to remain focused on his duty as a Christian Leader.
