Etigwe Uwa, SAN, has strongly condemned the outcome of the Abia Local Government Elections, describing it as a “sham” that undermines the democratic process. He emphasized that his stance is not influenced by personal or clan interests, but rather by the need to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.
Uwa pointed out discrepancies in the election results, noting that Ohafia Local Government posted more votes than during the Presidential and gubernatorial elections, despite late arrival of materials and low voter turnout. He argued that this is a clear indication of electoral fraud, which should not be justified by any means.
Furthermore, the legal luminary expressed skepticism about the benefits of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) for Ohafia, questioning its funding source and potential overlap with existing development commissions. He stressed that even if GODA brings benefits, it does not justify electoral misconduct.
Uwa’s statement also highlighted the continued detention of Etiokwe, emphasizing that right and wrong should be evaluated based on principles, not personalities or offices.
As a seasoned lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Uwa has a history of advocating for electoral integrity and accountability. In 2022, he contested the APGA governorship primary election in Abia State, seeking court declaration as the authentic winner.
