Enugu, Nigeria – A horrific incident has shaken the Ugbaike community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, following the death of Chikwado Eze, a young man who was buried alive for alleged fortification.
According to eyewitnesses, Chikwado had returned to his village to inform his father that his visa had expired. Seeking to ensure his son’s success abroad, Chikwado’s father suggested consulting a native doctor for spiritual fortification.
The native doctor, identified as Onuwa, instructed that Chikwado be buried alive for one hour and thirty minutes to undergo the fortification ritual. Tragically, when Chikwado was exhumed, he was found dead.
Enugu State Police Command has arrested Chikwado’s father, Uwakwe Eze, and the native doctor, Onuwa, in connection with the incident.
“The command is investigating the circumstances surrounding Chikwado’s death and will ensure that justice is served,” said a police spokesperson.
Community Reacts
The Ugbaike community is in shock, with many expressing outrage and sadness over the tragic loss of life.
“This is a senseless and heartbreaking incident,” said a local resident. “It’s unacceptable that such harmful practices still exist in our society.”
The incident highlights the need for education and awareness about the dangers of harmful traditional practices.
“We must work together to eradicate such harmful beliefs and ensure that our youth are protected from exploitation,” said a local leader.
The Enugu State Government has been urged to take swift action to address the issue and prevent similar incidents in the future.
