Says APC should resist temptation of wanting a one party State in Nigeria

Following complaints stemming out of the recently conducted gubernatorial elections in Edo State, which saw the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a movement, National Youth Alliance (NYA) has warned that such would not be tolerated in 2027 general elections.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday September 26, 2024, where NYA President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas said that allegations of vote buying, changing of results and other negative takes from the Edo polls would not be tolerated by Nigerian youth.

In the statement signed by his SA Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, NYA tasked INEC to be truly independent and remain neutral in subsequent elections, to make Nigerians have confidence in its conduct.

“For several complaints to be coming out of the Edo Gubernatorial polls, it means more needs to be done ahead of the next off cycle election in Ondo, to build confidence in Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Nigerians, especially the youth have had enough of their franchise being snatched through manipulation. Enough is enough! We want transparent elections, where candidates who truly got higher votes are declared, devoid of manipulation, ” the movement said.

NYA is of the view that the ruling party should avoid the temptation of wanting to make Nigeria a one party State, but should focus on good Governance.

“We are even wondering how a party that has caused so much hardship is expecting to win polls. Nigerians are hungry and angry. We demand free, credible and fair elections,” NYA declared.
