In a surprising turn of events, Rep. Ginger Onwusibe, the leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, has come to the defense of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu’s call for Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Onwusibe’s defense comes in response to criticism from fellow Labour Party member, Rep. Obi Aguocha, who deemed Kalu’s remarks as condescending and disrespectful to Governor Otti.
Onwusibe argued that Kalu did nothing wrong by promoting his party and inviting Otti to join the APC. He emphasized that Kalu’s intention was misinterpreted and that he was simply marketing his party.
Onwusibe also highlighted his personal relationship with Kalu, stating that he has known him since 2021 and worked with him during his campaign for Deputy Speaker.
Onwusibe urged lawmakers not to sensationalize Kalu’s statement, instead treating it as a commitment to his party’s victory in 2027. He also cautioned against spreading unfounded lies, citing his own experience with the PDP. By defending Kalu’s call, Onwusibe demonstrates a commitment to political civility and the right to free expression.
