The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has denied granting an interview to Umuahia-based radio station, Spin FM 95.3, where he allegedly urged Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press statement, Kalu’s Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, described the video as “fake” and “mischievous”, stating that the radio station had admitted to not conducting the interview.
“We are shocked by the release of such video into the media because at no time did the Deputy Speaker grant Spin FM 95.3 any interview of such,” the statement read.
Kalu’s office accused political detractors of attempting to tarnish his image and create disaffection between him and Governor Otti, warning the public against circulating the video, as it may have legal consequences.
The statement concluded: “Spin FM 95.3 Umuahia will be made to account for this in line with the extant laws, ethos of responsible and ethical journalism.”
