…voices worries over Lack of Support
The citizens of Nigeria, especially the Igbo people, have noticed a possible conflict between the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti.
It has been observed that Mr Peter Obi was noticeably absent during the first-anniversary celebration of Dr Alex Otti as Governor of Abia State on May 29, 2024. It is concerning that Mr Obi’s name was not included among the distinguished guests expected at the event held at the State International Conference Centre. Furthermore, Mr Obi has not publicly congratulated Governor Otti on his first year in office, indicating a concerning lack of support and unity within the Labour Party.
OHANAEZE NDIGBO has been waiting to see if Mr Obi would rectify this situation by extending warm congratulations to Governor Otti during the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s Democracy on June 12, 2024. However, it seems that Mr Obi’s name has been consistently left off official lists of dignitaries at state functions, and his pictures were omitted from Abia State’s brochures for both the May 29th and June 12 events.
There is a growing divide between Mr. Obi and Governor Otti, as evidenced by the Governor’s failure to invite Mr. Obi to commission any projects in the State. OHANAEZE NDIGBO’s Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has expressed concern over this apparent discord and emphasized the need for reconciliation.
OHANAEZE NDIGBO is urging Mr Peter Obi to follow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s example and offer unwavering support to Governor Alex Otti. President Tinubu demonstrated his commitment to his party members by supporting Governors Fashola and Ambode over the years, and now Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Mr Obi must understand that unity is crucial for progress and should strive to mend any differences with Governor Otti for the betterment of the Igbo nation.
Should reconciliation efforts fail, OHANAEZE NDIGBO is prepared to intervene and impose necessary sanctions to rectify the situation. It is imperative that both Mr Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti set aside their differences for the collective good of the Igbo people.
Signed,
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro
Secretary General
OHANAEZE NDIGBO
