Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ca for president in the 2023 election, hinted at the possibility of supporting Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, in the 2027 election.
The former vice president, who is currently in discussions to unite with certain opposition political parties, stated that if the party selects the former governor of Anambra, he would readily support Obi in the upcoming election.
According to The Sun, during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Atiku disclosed this suggestion.
OHAFIATV reported that Obi and Atiku recently held a private meeting, sparking rumours that several opposition political parties will unite ahead of the national elections in 2027.
Atiku stated, “We can merge to achieve a common goal,” confirming the opposition parties’ decision to unite to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 election. Therefore, if we want to accomplish that, nothing can stop us. It is achievable.
Atiku declared that he would not hesitate to support Peter Obi if the newly formed party determined that it was the South-East’s time and Obi was selected.
“I have stated time and time again, and even before the general elections in 2023, that I will not run for president if PDP chooses to allocate the ticket to the South or South-East explicitly.
“I will follow the party’s decision as long as it is made. However, I ran for president in 2023 because it was available to all party members.”
