Nigerians are being cautioned not to buy pre-registered SIM cards by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The Commission underlined that this behaviour was prohibited and might have serious repercussions, such as jail time.

The NCC emphasised that people who use these SIM cards may unintentionally be connected to crimes like financial fraud, kidnapping, identity theft, and armed robbery.

In addition, the NCC noted that pre-registered SIM cards taint customer data and make it more difficult to successfully track down criminals.

By utilising these SIM cards, the accuracy of consumer data was compromised, which made it more difficult for law enforcement to locate and detain the real criminals.

To improve national security, the NCC’s message attempted to inform the public about the dangers of pre-registered SIM cards and to promote adherence to the law.
