The recent killing of 25 people during a bandit attack in the Agojeju-Odo community in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State has shocked and saddened Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
Speaking on the attack in Lokoja, Ododo expressed remorse for the unsightly turn that local conflicts between communities have taken on over time.
He pledged that his administration will act right away to prevent the regrettable circumstances from happening again.
“I’m promising the people that those responsible for the heinous deed will shortly face justice.
“Assailants whose acts of mindless cowardice resulted in the destruction of lives and property in the area are already being pursued by security agencies,” he stated.
Elder Joel Oyibo-Salifu, the state deputy governor, is leading a group that the governor has sent to the area to offer condolences. Up to the most recent escalation of the war, he claims that the state government’s kinetic and non-kinetic tactics had resulted in a relative state of stability in the Omala Local Government Area.
To enhance the current security setup in Omala LGA, he also pledged to send a detachment of the newly formed Metropolitan Quick Response to the region.
Nonetheless, Ododo expressed sympathy to the families of those slain in the incident and said that the government would help the injured as well as those whose homes had been destroyed in the assault.
On April 4, bandits are said to have killed at least 25 persons and injured an unknown number of others in the LGA.
According to reports, the attack was carried out in vengeance for the recent slaughter of six herders by locals.
