The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State has suffered a severe political earthquake as a result of the departure of prominent party members on Monday in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These individuals include Mr. ACB Agbazuere, the former chief of staff to the state’s most recent governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Eze Chikamnayo, a former commissioner for information, and Uzor Azubuike, a former member of the House of Representatives.
This is happening before the All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal caucus meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Chief Donatus Nwankpa, the party’s national welfare secretary, and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the minister of state for labour and employment, welcomed the former PDP leaders to the APC.
The minister called a stakeholders gathering at her country home in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area, where they announced their defection from the PDP to the APC. Chief Uzor Ihuka, a former commissioner representing Isiala-Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, and Osisioma Local Government Areas on the Board of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), is among the other defectors.
Chief Sam Nwogu, a former commissioner for environment, Elder Godwin Nna, a former commissioner for commerce, and Chief Eze Nwanganga, a former commissioner for public utilities, are among the others.
