The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out airstrikes targeting insurgents’ enclaves in Katsina and Zamfara states as part of ‘Operation Hadarin Daji’. The strikes aimed to eliminate terrorists and disrupt their activities in the region.
In the first attack on Tuesday, the air component targeted terrorist leader Maudi Maudi, south of Tsaskiya in Safana Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina state. Although the fate of Maudi Maudi remains unconfirmed, several terrorists were eliminated in the operation. A post-strike assessment revealed the targeted location engulfed in flames, with survivors seen fleeing to safety.
Similarly, on Wednesday, another strike was conducted against alleged terrorist kingpin Alhaji Na-Shama of Ussu village, Nasarawar Mailayi District in Birnin Magaji LGA of Zamfara state. Reliable intelligence confirmed the neutralization of several of Na-Shama’s associates and the complete destruction of his camp and logistics. However, confirmation regarding Na-Shama’s status is still pending.
According to NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet, these precision airstrikes are part of efforts to protect civilian lives and dismantle terrorists’ bases and supply lines. The proactive approach aligns with the mission objectives of Operation Hadarin Daji, which aims to secure the Northwestern region from terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
While the airstrikes have dealt significant blows to insurgents’ operations, the NAF could not confirm the elimination of the targeted terrorist leaders. Nevertheless, the operations demonstrate the military’s commitment to combating insecurity and restoring peace in the affected areas.
The airstrikes underscore the importance of airpower in complementing ground operations and maintaining pressure on insurgent groups. The NAF continues to collaborate with other security agencies to conduct intelligence-driven operations and ensure the safety and security of communities in the Northwest region.
