The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that 260,000 candidates participated in the Mock-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across 793 computer-based test centers nationwide. The examination aimed to assess the preparedness of candidates for the main UTME scheduled to commence on April 19, 2024.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the mock exam after monitoring the exercise in Abuja. He highlighted that the examination was designed to test the readiness of candidates for the upcoming main UTME.
Mr. Oloyede also mentioned that JAMB successfully conducted recruitment examinations for the Nigerian Police the previous day. Despite a few incidents recorded in about four centers during the mock UTME, Mr. Oloyede assured that these issues would be promptly resolved.
With 1.98 million candidates registered for the main 2024 UTME, Mr. Oloyede clarified that only 260,000 candidates participated in the mock exam. This limitation was intentional to ensure that the mock exam did not turn into another full-scale exam and was solely meant to test the examination system’s functionality.
Regarding the readiness for the main UTME, Mr. Oloyede assured that JAMB was fully prepared for the examination. He stated that new mechanisms would be deployed to further fortify the exam system and ensure its smooth conduct.
Mr. Oloyede announced that the results of the mock UTME would be released either on Thursday or Friday. Additionally, Mr. Damilola Bamiro, JAMB’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consultant, confirmed that the examination body was in constant communication with all participating centers through the JAMB Situation Room. This real-time interaction facilitated the speedy resolution of any issues that arose during the exam.
The 2024 UTME is scheduled to take place from April 19 to 29. Overall, JAMB is committed to ensuring a seamless and transparent examination process for all candidates.
