Samuel Olanrewaju, a 24-year-old man, appeared before the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday, facing charges of assault and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons. The defendant was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace and causing unlawful grievous harm.
According to the prosecutor, Christian Okonofua, the incident occurred on March 3 in the Eyita area of Ikorodu. Mr. Olanrewaju was alleged to have been in possession of suspected banned substances, which could potentially disrupt peace in the area.

The prosecution further stated that the defendant unlawfully assaulted Olanrewaju Taiwo, causing him permanent bodily injury with a cutlass. Mr. Olanrewaju pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
In response to the plea, Magistrate A.O. Onalaja granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties required to stand as guarantors. One of the sureties must be a clergyman or a respected community leader, providing evidence of tax payment.
The case was adjourned until March 28 for mention, allowing time for further legal proceedings and investigations.
