The Federal Capital Territory-Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has issued a stern warning to Abuja residents, urging them to file their tax returns before March 31 or face consequences. The directive, in accordance with the Personal Income Tax Cap. P8, 2011 (as amended), underscores the importance of timely compliance with tax obligations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the FCT-IRS emphasized the legal obligation for individuals residing in the FCT to submit their tax returns before the specified deadline. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in repercussions, as stipulated by relevant laws governing tax non-compliance.
The agency stressed that the deadline for filing tax returns would not be extended beyond March 31, 2024. Abuja residents are urged to take prompt action to fulfill their tax obligations and avoid potential sanctions.
Emphasizing the significance of tax compliance, the FCT-IRS urged all taxpayers to adhere to the prescribed deadline and fulfill their obligations as mandated by law. Timely submission of tax returns is essential for maintaining a fair and efficient tax system within the FCT.
According to the statement, all taxable entities are required to submit returns reflecting their total income from all sources for the preceding fiscal year to the relevant tax authority within 90 days of the commencement of each assessment year. This requirement underscores the importance of accurate and timely reporting for effective tax administration.
The FCT-IRS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring tax compliance and upholding the integrity of the tax system. The agency remains vigilant in enforcing tax regulations and expects full cooperation from taxpayers in meeting their obligations.
