The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to open its online portal for political parties to upload the details of their nominated candidates for the Edo governorship election on March 4.
According to Sam Olumekun, INEC’s national commissioner, the portal will be open from March 4 to March 24 for parties to upload the personal particulars and names of their nominated candidates.
Following the February 24 deadline for primaries, political parties will have 20 days to complete the uploading process, with access codes for the portal available from March 1.
Olumekun emphasized that the 20-day window is sufficient for parties to upload the nomination forms of their candidates, including the government candidate and running mate, and no extensions will be granted beyond March 24.
To assist parties in the nomination process, INEC plans to conduct refresher training for two liaison officers of each political party from March 1 to March 4 at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. The media center at the INEC headquarters will also serve as a help desk for parties needing assistance during the nomination period.
INEC urges strict compliance with the timelines and emphasizes the importance of adherence to ensure seamless nominations for the Edo gubernatorial election.
