The Arewa Youth Assembly, AYA, has urged politicians in the Federal Capital Territory to give FCT Minister Nyesom Wike the time he needs to accomplish his job as head of the FCT Administration.
The group spoke in response to a recent statement made by Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, in which he accused the former Rivers State governor of having a “I don’t care attitude” towards the security of Nigeria’s capital.
The group stated that the current status of the nation does not require politically motivated utterances, defamation, witch-hunting, or image tarnishing, but rather all hands on deck for the benefit of FCT people.
According to the group, Wike has demonstrated evidence of a committed servant in the areas of security and infrastructure development.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Salihu Danlami, its Speaker.
The Arewa Youth Assembly has called on all lawmakers, regardless of political affiliation, to work together to ensure the safety of all inhabitants’ lives and property.
The group recalled Wike’s previous statement that without security, no significant progress can occur.
It warns politicians to avoid “using cheap tricks of playing politics with the precious lives of FCT residents and, causing nuisance.”
Residents have been urged to “remain calm, comply with security agents in carrying out their jobs, and report anything suspicious, as security is the responsibility of us all.”
