The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has urged both federal and state governments to intensify efforts in alleviating the economic hardship and rising insecurity experienced by Nigerians.
Speaking during the 19th regular North-Central Zonal Executive Council meeting at the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, SSANU’s national president, Mohammed Ibrahim, emphasized the need for immediate action to address the growing challenges.
Highlighting the dire situation faced by citizens, Ibrahim stressed the importance of government intervention to mitigate the unbearable conditions. He lamented the continuous strain on the welfare of university staff, calling for urgent measures to alleviate their plight.
As an affiliate union of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), SSANU pledged full support for the proposed protest by the NLC, aiming to convey the message that the current state of affairs in Nigeria is unacceptable and that authorities must do more to improve the situation.
The zonal meeting served as a platform to evaluate the working conditions of SSANU members across 13 universities in the six states of the zone. Ibrahim reiterated the importance of addressing internal issues within universities and escalating concerns to university management when necessary.
