The Olu of Itori, Oba Abdulfatai Akamo, urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the Bola Tinubu administration, emphasizing the challenges inherited by the government. Speaking during a news conference to mark his 20th coronation anniversary, he highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving the country’s economy and commended Tinubu for boldly announcing the removal of fuel subsidy.
Oba Akamo criticized individuals exacerbating economic hardships by inflating prices of local commodities like yam, garri, and tomatoes, attributing the situation to factors unrelated to currency exchange rates. He underscored the need to address internal challenges rather than solely blaming external factors, stating, “We are our own enemies.”
As part of his anniversary celebrations, Oba Akamo pledged to distribute essential food items to vulnerable households in Itori and empower local youths by providing motorcycles. Additionally, he announced plans to support orphanages and juvenile homes in Abeokuta, offering electrical items to improve their living conditions and organizing free eye tests for community members, with eyeglasses and medications provided as needed.
The monarch’s call for patience and recognition of economic realities, coupled with tangible efforts to alleviate hardship, underscores his commitment to supporting his community during challenging times.
