According to the Enugu State Police Command, since January 1, 2024, they have apprehended 83 criminal suspects and freed 20 victims who had been kidnapped within the state.
Among the other crimes perpetrated in the state during the study period were kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, defilement, and vandalism, for which the suspects were taken into custody.
When CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state commissioner of police, briefed reporters on the accomplishments of the Command since the start of the year, he revealed this information on Tuesday.
Uzuegbu reported that during the period under review, 46 weapons of various calibres and 125 rounds of ammunition of various calibres were found.
He claims that 36 motor vehicles—six tricycles and fifteen motorcycles—were found by courageous and perceptive crime-fighting officers and men of the Command.
He stated that several of the suspects who had been detained had been charged and were being held in the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Centre, and that the remaining suspects will face appropriate charges after the investigations were finished.
According to the commissioner, the Command’s proactive and people-centered policing strategies are beginning to produce the anticipated outcomes.
“I would especially like to express my gratitude to Peter Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, for the tremendous support his administration has shown to the state’s police force.
In a similar spirit, I would want to express my sincere gratitude to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his visionary and practical leadership style, which has led to the significant advancements in policing that have been observed in Enugu State and throughout Nigeria.
Furthermore, I would want to convey my sincere gratitude to all of the security players in Enugu State as well as my colleagues in sister agencies for the invaluable cooperation we received in 2023 and 2024.
“I also want to express my gratitude and admiration for my officers and men’s devotion, perseverance, and commitment to duty, all of which have contributed to the operational successes that have been documented.
He stated, “I implore them to stay committed and focused on carrying out the Nigeria Police Force’s mandate in Enugu State.”
