President Bola Tinubu has submitted the names of five directors for confirmation to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) board and one commissioner for the National Population Commission (NPC) to the Senate.
Tinubu’s request, conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpiabio, highlighted the nominees: Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Muritala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu for the CBN board.
The appointment process aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment Act 2007, according to Tinubu, citing specific sections.
Upon receipt, Senate President Akpiabio referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions for further review, urging a report within four weeks.
In a separate letter, Tinubu sought confirmation for Hamidu Rahim as Commissioner for the National Population Commission representing Osun State, citing constitutional provisions.
Akpiabio referred this request to the Senate Committee on National Population and National Identity for necessary action, with a directive to report back to plenary within one week.
The concise communication emphasizes Tinubu’s adherence to legal frameworks and the Senate’s procedural steps in vetting nominees for crucial positions in key institutions.
