The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ado-Ekiti branch, urgently calls on federal and state governments to address the escalating security challenges in the country. Recent attacks, including the brutal murders of Oba Samuel Olatunji and Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, as well as the kidnapping of six pupils, three teachers, and a bus driver in Emure-Ekiti, highlight the severity of the situation.
The branch commends the swift response of the Ekiti state government in pursuing the perpetrators but emphasizes the need for comprehensive policies to combat insecurity. The NBA urges governments at all levels to deploy technology and manpower effectively to tackle emerging security threats.
In a statement, Lawrence Fasanmi, the branch chairman, emphasizes that the primary duty of any government is to ensure the security of citizens and their property. The association underscores the importance of citizens entrusting their rights and liberty to the government with the expectation of protection.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, particularly those of the abducted school children in Emure-Ekiti, the NBA calls for concerted efforts to secure their safe release. The association stresses the gravity of the insecurity ravaging the country and appeals for strategic initiatives to curb this menace.
The statement concludes with a reiterated call on the government to direct policies and implement measures to effectively address the security challenges facing Nigeria. The NBA offers prayers for the victims and urges a collective commitment to safeguarding lives and properties.
