Three Police Officers Dismissed Over Armed Robbery

Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, Inspector John Ogbe, and Cpl Idowu Sunday of the Ijebu-Ife division were fired by Police Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu of Ogun state for their roles in armed robbery and extortion. The information was made public on Tuesday during a parade at the Eleweran Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, where 27 other suspects—including cultists, armed robbers, and kidnappers—as well as the sacked policemen were introduced.

The dismissal came after a report by Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode student Kashimao Emmanuel, which resulted in the arrest of the cops and a citizen, driver Adesiyan Mathew. Emmanuel claimed that four armed individuals, one of them was dressed in police camouflage, approached him as he was driving his Toyota Venza, which had the licence plate LSD 813 EX. In spite of After first objecting, one of the attackers fired a shot into the air, forcing Emmanuel to comply. The attackers pushed him into his vehicle and headed for the Sagamu Motorway. After that, they went to Ijebu-Ode, where N300,000 was taken by force from his account and put into an Opay account (number 9097829766).

The subsequent investigation revealed two additional complainants who identified the suspects for robbing them in a similar manner. Police Commissioner Alamutu disclosed that the dismissed officers underwent disciplinary proceedings in the orderly room, and they will face court charges soon.

Six rifles with breach numbers 23286 and ten rounds of live ammunition, as well as an AK-47 rifle with breach number 804274 and six rounds of ammunition, were among the recovered exhibits. APP 684 DX, a Toyota Camry, was also taken from the accused.

The declaration reaffirms the dedication to upholding police force integrity and holding personnel responsible for wrongdoing. The three officers’ termination sends a strong message to the rest of the law enforcement community that unlawful behaviour will not be accepted.
