As part of continuous operations to quell insurgency, the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch carried out a targeted airstrike along the Kwiga-Kampanin Doka corridor in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, effectively eliminating 30 terrorists and kidnappers. Based on information obtained on the perpetrators’ travel along the designated axis, a decisive measure was taken.

According to AVM Edward Gabkwet, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the information also connected the same syndicate to other attacks and kidnappings of people in Birnin Gwari, as well as the latest ambush on troops at Kwanan Mutuwa on January 27.

Detailed surveillance identified a convoy of approximately 15 motorcycles, each carrying at least two armed terrorists. Subsequently, a deliberate and precise airstrike was conducted, targeting the location where the terrorists had converged. The aftermath of the strike confirmed the elimination of several terrorists.

AVM Edward Gabkwet emphasized the success of the airstrike, acknowledging the meticulous work of the crew in tracking and engaging the criminals at an opportune moment. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, commended the commander and troops for their professionalism.

“Even if there’s no reason to celebrate this accomplishment, I have to give the crew credit for their expertise in tracking the crooks until the right moment to strike. We have to never give up and never give in,” Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar stated.

This action sends a clear message to those committing acts of terrorism and kidnapping and demonstrates the military’s commitment to resolving security concerns in the area.
