Three people who are suspected of forging, extorting, and counterfeiting police character certificates have been detained by the Nigeria Police Force. A unique sting operation was conducted on November 16, 2023, with the goal of breaking up the criminal network. This led to the arrest.

The business owner and main suspect, Chinedu Agbosim, as well as computer operators Mariam Dauda and Ebighose Anderson, are among the people arrested. The operation was prompted by the possibility of a 10-year entry ban for an innocent victim who applied for a UK visa and submitted a fake police character certificate.

Authorities found three fake police character certificates, several documents belonging to Nigerian citizens, a computer-generated specimen of CP Olaolu Adegbite’s signature, and a document with the superimposed signature of former CCR CP Ndu I.M. during the search of Chinedu’s shop near the Federal Training Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos. A desktop PC was also taken into custody.

According to ASP Aminat Mayegun, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon Lagos, the accused have admitted to their roles in producing fictitious police character certificates, and they are anticipated to face charges in court shortly. The arrest provides insight into the community’s persistent efforts to curb illegal activity and forgeries.
