In response to the rising use of the slogan “No Gree for Anybody,” the Nigerian Defence Headquarters has called on citizens to collaborate with security agencies and actively oppose terrorism. Edward Buba, the director of defence media operations, emphasized this during a press briefing in Abuja, urging Nigerians to report any suspicious activities and assuring prompt action.
Buba clarified that the military’s focus in 2024 remains unwavering — to locate and eliminate terrorists, denying them the ability to threaten citizens. He highlighted ongoing operations targeting terrorist commanders, emphasizing that both high-ranking leaders and lower-level commanders are priority targets for neutralization.
Recent military efforts have yielded significant results, with 86 terrorists neutralized, 101 arrested, and 30 individuals involved in oil theft apprehended. Additionally, 21 kidnapped hostages were rescued, and troops successfully prevented oil theft estimated at N736,115,470.00 in the SS region.
However, the Defence Headquarters’ adoption of the “No Gree for Anybody” slogan has drawn attention and caution from the Nigerian police. Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi warned of a potential revolutionary push linked to the slogan, expressing concerns about its capacity to incite chaos. Adejobi highlighted intelligence suggesting that the slogan might be associated with plans to trigger a revolution in the country.
“In the security community, we have seen it as a very, very dangerous slogan that can trigger crisis,” Adejobi emphasized during a press briefing. The police’s apprehension stems from the belief that the slogan, while seemingly innocuous, could be exploited to spark unrest and destabilize the nation.
As Nigeria grapples with the complex challenge of insurgency, the government and security forces are urging citizens to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and actively reject terrorism in the interest of national security. The delicate balance between fostering a sense of collective resistance against terrorism and avoiding potential misuse of slogans remains a focal point for authorities in the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and stability of the country.
