Igbinedion University, Okada, located in Edo, has recently inaugurated a tablet-manufacturing factory aimed at catering to the specific needs of its teaching hospital and the surrounding community. The university’s vice-chancellor, Lawrence Ezemonye, revealed this development during the 13th oath-taking/induction ceremony for 101 pharmacy graduates of the 2022/2023 session.
The newly established facility resides within the university’s Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology. It is strategically designed to serve multiple purposes, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, extemporaneous compounding, and tablet production. Additionally, the university has integrated an automated production line for antiseptics, disinfectants, and reagents.

Ezemonye emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance teaching, research capabilities, and address the immediate aseptic requirements of the University Teaching Hospital and other healthcare institutions in the state. The introduction of a tablet-manufacturing factory aligns with the university’s commitment to advancing medical education and contributing to the local healthcare infrastructure.
During the induction ceremony, the vice-chancellor urged the pharmacy graduates to approach their profession with a clear sense of purpose. He emphasized the institution’s strict stance against professional misconduct, assuring that any violations would face appropriate sanctions. The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) registrar echoed this sentiment, encouraging the inductees to take their internship programs seriously and pursue specialization in their careers.
In an insightful induction lecture, Paul Enebeli underscored the pivotal role of pharmacy in healthcare delivery, emphasizing the need for optimization.
