The Anambra State Police Command, led by Commissioner Aderemi Adeoye, revealed its commendable achievements in yuletide operations conducted between December 1, 2023, and the present date. The operations resulted in the arrest of 30 suspects involved in various criminal activities.
The arrests included 12 individuals implicated in kidnapping, nine in armed robbery, six in cultism, and three for alleged insurgency. The law enforcement efforts also led to the recovery of 11 vehicles, 12 firearms, and 40 ammunition rounds from the apprehended suspects.
Regrettably, two police personnel from the Enugu command lost their lives in a tragic incident at Uga Roundabout in Aguata Local Government area. The assailants responsible for this crime were traced to their camp in Ogboji forest, where two of them were neutralized by police operatives.
One notable arrest involved Emmanuel Orjiakor from Oba, a notorious armed robber and kidnapper, who sustained gunshot injuries during a confrontation with the Anambra Vigilante Group. Additionally, on December 1, Obinna Ekwunife, 27, was apprehended in connection to the kidnap of Emmanuel Tobechukwu, who had paid a ransom of N9 million to a POS operator.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Olobo Ibrahim, 47, on December 2, as he was found in possession of a robbed Lexus SUV along Kwata Junction, Awka. On December 5, Samson Ubon, 31, and Efobi Ekene, 29, both of Obosi, were arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping of Obioma Godswill from Delta. The suspects confessed to using Facebook accounts with attractive pictures to lure victims to their hideout, where they demanded ransom before releasing them.
These successful operations showcase the dedication of the Anambra State Police Command in ensuring the safety and security of its residents during the festive season.
