The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially confirmed that three transmission towers on the Maiduguri–Damaturu line were destroyed by suspected insurgents using explosives. The destructive act, which occurred on Friday, was accompanied by the tragic loss of an officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
In a statement released in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, particularly mourning the loss of the NSCDC official. The attack not only resulted in significant infrastructure damage but also claimed a life in the line of duty.
Mbah conveyed TCN’s heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the NSCDC, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the impact on those directly affected by the attack.
This unfortunate incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by critical infrastructure, particularly in regions prone to insurgent activities. The destruction of transmission towers not only disrupts the electricity supply but also poses a threat to the safety of those involved in maintaining and securing these facilities.
TCN’s response reflects the somber reality of the situation, recognizing the severity of the incident and the need for collective efforts to address security concerns in vulnerable areas. The company stands in solidarity with the affected family and the NSCDC, emphasizing the tragic consequences of such attacks on both human lives and essential services.
As security remains a paramount concern, the incident underscores the imperative for increased measures to protect critical infrastructure across the country. It serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced in maintaining essential services in regions marked by insecurity.
In conclusion, TCN’s acknowledgment of the tower destruction and loss of life underscores the broader issue of security challenges affecting infrastructure. The incident demands renewed efforts to safeguard critical installations, ensuring the safety of personnel and the uninterrupted provision of essential services.
