Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the futility of dwelling on the tragic army airstrike that claimed the lives of at least 126 people and injured many in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State. Shettima, leading a Federal Government delegation, expressed President Bola Tinubu’s deep concern and sympathy for the affected families during a hospital visit.
Quoting the late Dele Giwa, Shettima highlighted the significance of each life lost, stating that the President’s heart is with the bereaved families. He assured victims of government support and revealed that an investigation, following Tinubu’s directive, is underway to prevent a recurrence, with an expected swift report.
The Peoples Gazette previously reported on the accidental airstrike during Maulud celebrations, narrating how 126 people were killed. Idris Dahiru, a resident, recounted the harrowing experience of the army bombing, describing the devastating impact of two consecutive bombs during a 30-minute interval.
“As we rushed to aid the injured, the jet returned, unleashing a second bomb, this time, many of those who had come to help were among the casualties. We have 66 loved ones receiving medical care at Barau Dikko hospital,” said Mr. Dahiru.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation of the army, with Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation. The President, mourning the loss of lives, has ordered a probe into the accidental airstrike. The report captures the gravity of the situation, the government’s response, and the call for accountability in a more engaging manner.
