The Nigerian government and the United Kingdom (UK) have extended their alliance.

This was announced at the start of a three-day 2023 Cabinet Retreat for Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries, and Top Government Functionaries by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), President Bola Tinubu officially opened the retreat on Wednesday in Abuja, with the topic being “Delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

UK Envoy

Montgomery praised Tinubu’s administration for its “big bold” economic reforms and stated that Nigeria was facing significant difficulties in terms of social, economic, and security.

“The major challenges in a global context are the challenging global economy and shifting geopolitical and foreign policy pressures,” he continued.

And as I have previously stated in public, I support the significant and audacious economic reforms that you are pursuing.

I respect the way you have led ECOWAS, spoken out for democracy, and engaged the G20 internationally—all of which have helped Nigeria reclaim its place in the world.

Additionally, Mr. President, I wanted to utilize this goodwill letter to state that the UK has reestablished its alliance with Nigeria, your cabinet, and the Nigerian people.
