The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, is pleased to invite the general public and Ndigbo from all over the world to the 2023 Igbo Day celebration. This year’s celebration, themed “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya” (Equity and Justice), will be held on Eke market day (Friday), September 29, 2023, at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The chairman of the occasion will be Professor Thomas Ella of Yale University, and the guest speaker will be Professor Elechi Chinda-Wonye of the University of Singapore. The highlights of the Igbo Day celebration will include awards to Senator Obi Wali, Eze Clifford Nwuche, Chief Emma Agumah, and Senator Francis Ellah, all of whom are esteemed Igbo icons and legends of Rivers State. The former administrative secretary, Nnanyelugo Odunze, will also be honored.
The high point of the 2023 Igbo Day celebration will be a one-minute silence observed by Igbos all over the world for those killed in Imo State and other places in the past. Igbo services and prayers will be held on September 23rd at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Port Harcourt and on September 24th in all churches across the country. The Imeobi and General Assembly will be held on September 27th and 28th, 2023, based on the doctrine of necessity to strengthen the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
This year’s Igbo Day celebration is a prelude to the ushering in of the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in January 2025. Oduduwa, Northern, and Izon leaders will give their goodwill messages, and Igbo leaders in the diaspora will be in Port Harcourt for the events.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo extends a warm invitation to all Igbos and friends of the Igbo to join us for this year’s Igbo Day celebration. Let us come together to celebrate our rich culture, heritage, and unity.
