By September of this year, according to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, his Abia state would switch to a treasury single account.
The information was released in a statement made on Thursday using his verified Twitter account.
Otti noted that the effort will increase openness and efficiency and that it will consolidate all government payments and revenue.
Otti urged state stakeholders to accept the change because “it is in the best interest of Abia and its people,” adding that it will reduce fraud, streamline tax payments, create jobs, and draw in investment.
“Transition to a Treasury Single Account”, he wrote.
“Abia State will switch to a Treasury Single Account (TSA) system by September 1, 2023. This action will centralize all state income and payments, improving efficiency and transparency. I reaffirmed the advantages of our new digital tax system at a town-hall meeting with the state’s transport unions and business leaders recently. This approach will deter fraud, make tax payments easier, empower our people, create jobs, and draw investment. Knowing that this change is in the best interests of Abia State and its citizens, I urge all stakeholders to accept it.
