The Governorship candidate of Action People’s Party, APP, Mascot Uzor Kalu, was received by the Okon-Aku community as he continues his familiarization visits to Abia State Wards in preparation for the 2023 General Election.
It was a high-powered interactive session between the determined governorship candidate who is undoubtedly one of the most serious contenders from Abia North Senatorial Zone of Abia State and one of the “A” communities of Ohafia where the voting strength of Okamu ward is vital to the victory of any candidate in Abia State.
Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu was received by the Ezie Ogo in Council in Ndi Eche Compound who blessed him and prayed with Nzu for his victory if he is ready to shine the light of development in Okon-Aku as the community has so far lacked the presence of government since the end of the 2007 tenure of Orji Uzor Kalu. They blessed him with their traditional prayer to go for victory.
While speaking at the general town hall meeting, the president general of Okon-Aku Development Union, Dr. Mmecha Umeh Kalu, narrated the challenges facing Okon-Aku which include inaccessible roads to other communities like Afikpo which in turn is hindering productivity as the community is predominantly farmers. He also spoke about the provision of portable water for the community and lingering boundary issues.
The youth leader, who spoke on behalf of the youths appealed for the provision of free and affordable education to the youths, empowerment, and training on skills to curb social vices.
The speaker on behalf of the women appealed for capital for the women to support their businesses and farming practices.
Reacting, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu explained that he is fighting for Abia North to have her right as it is time for power to return to the Zone. He promised to build Okon-Aku roads and bring foreign partners that will utilize the rich palm production in Okon-Aku to drive development and end all boundary dispute that has lingered which he said will be settled once and for all and a road to be built through Okon-Aku to Cross River State.
The APP candidate also promised a return to the free education system at the secondary and primary levels and to ensure that the community will massively gain in the 40,000 job provisions within the first 4 years in power.
Finally, he appealed for the support of the people to remove the bad government and replace it with an era that can pay salaries between the 25th to 29th of every month.
