Called “Okpu Agu House” The Ohafia Center for Igbo studies promises to be one of the strategic centers for learning about Igbo cultural heritage, food, and tradition, albeit Africa, a continent whose roots in culture and tradition speak her origin.
The unveiling of the masterplan for the beautiful edifice is what converged the Ohafia people at Ssndralia Hotel Abuja on 4th December 2022 in an epic event that saw the gathering of who is who in Ohafia from all works of life and politics.
it is on record that the Ohafia War Dance has, in its own right, become a world-class, African cultural, and historical connotation in human history where bravery and valor have become a panacea for progress. That is why the center will be a phenomenal achievement to further engrave Ohafia heritage in the spirit of Africa.
Ohafia Improvement Union, OIU, in her magnanimity used the occasion to reorganize and decorate several Ohafia Sons whose exploits have continued to engender progress and development in the communities. prominent among them were Chief Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, and Chief Umeh Kalu, SAN, among others while friends of Ohafia like Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Presidential candidate of Action Democratic Party, ADP, Engr Yabaghi Yusuf Sani, were also honored among others.
There was an announcement that turned the gathering into a euphony of excitement when upon enquiry and realization that there was no ready land for the realization of the project, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, ‘Ishinka Ohafia’ after making a handsome donation towards the launching of the Compendium: Sights, Sounds, Issues, and People of Ohafia, the Managing Director/CEO, Nigeria Film Corporation, NFC said he will seek to secure land approval through his contacts at the FCDA, for donation to Ohafia people to ensure the realization of this dream in record time. He also expressed joy at the turnout of the people for this event, the unity of mind and purpose, and expressed optimism that this project will see the light of the day.
While speaking with the Press shortly after, Dr. Maduekwe said “When the Ohafia Warrior Rises, The Igbo Spirit Follows”. This means that there is nothing impossible for the Ohafia man, the Igbo to achieve when they set their mind to it.
