A Nigerian teenager that hails from Assga Ohafia Local Government in Abia State, Master Samuel Olugu Ukpai, has continued to set Canada on fire with record-breaking achievements in education and sports with more than twenty-six medals to his credit.
The fifteen years old Uma Olugu from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria was born in Nigeria but joined his father in Canada when he was just 1 year and 7 months old. Uma recently won a whooping sum of N40 million for his 3-year Senior Secondary (2022-24) education in Canada owing to his academic excellent performance and stint for sports, he is poised to soar to even greater heights.
OHAFIATV News recalls that the elder sister to the hardworking boy, Mercy Ugonma Olugu Ukpai, had in the same fashion set some wonderful records in sports as academics. In 2019, Mercy earned the highest academic record with a 97% average at St Agnes Jr High School – Junior Secondary School, the first by any African.
She later made the Principal’s List Award (The principal’s list is 90% and above) at Citadel High School – Senior Secondary School). It was also the first by any African student.
While at St. Catherine’s Elementary School, Grade 6, she won Mount Sutton Everest Award- Highest Academic Achievement, and it was also the first by any African pupil.
In sports, Mercy revealed that she won a total of fifty-six medals competing in various sporting events. She also won the Best Athletics Award for 2020-2021 in Nova Scotia.
Mercy won Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Exemplary Participation Award, in 2019. She was the best female performer in the standing power long jump in Nova Scotia in 2018.
She broke the record in the Atlantic Region of Nova Scotia for the Vertical Jump, leaping 73.7cm in 2018.
OHAFIATV News also reported that their eldest son Master Eugene Olugu, also broke record as the best graduating student from a high school in Canada.
He has joined the retinue and rank of Nigeria students who have continued to make the country proud by making history in a high school in Canada.
He is a recipient of the following distinguished awards:
1.. KTS Leadership Award
2.. University Entrance Scholarship award
3.. IMHOTEP Legacy Award Scholarship
4.. Got accepted in 3 different Universities including the prestigious Dalhousie University
5… Got shortlisted for a summer job with a TOP LAW FIRM.
This academic excellence is in their DNA. Remember that their father, Dr. Olugu Ukpai, the Founder/ CEO CHAMA, a Christian, humanitarian organization based in Canada, also shattered academic records at University of Port Harcourt, garnering 37 A’s, 7 B’s and 3 C’s and graduating with a first Class.
He received various laurels as the : Best graduating student of the Department and receibed the HOS’s award, and was the first 1st class God the Department since inception, the best graduating student of the faculty and received the Dean’s award, and was the overall best graduating student of the University with a GPA of the 4.73.
He received automatic employment and began his career as a lecturer at the University by the vice chancellor.
He received federal government scholarship for his graduate program. Six months into the program, He was awarded with the prestigious Commonwealth scholarship Fellowship to Canada for a graduate program. He later received British Government scholarship obtainable at Foxhill school of law, UK from where he garnered his Ph.D in law. Dr. Ukpai received the West African Research Fellowship and the list is unending.
What is the secret? Could it be a reward from above? for the family’s unwavering dedication to global philanthropy? No wonder the Bible says that He who gives to the poor lends to God God has a way of setting his own and he looks inward.
Indeed, this is sure proof that academic excellence is still possible with the right commitment and it is clear that the feats being recorded by these Ohafia kids run in the blood.
