This past week, Dr. Samuel Uba Okorie, went on tour of Ovukwu Abam Wards – a brief stop-over in Ndi Oji Abam and then Atan Abam, where the Eze Ogo and all the Ndi Ichina gave him their unreserved blessings. Ndi Iri-Agha, Youths, Women, and Men, all trooped out in their numbers to mob him. While we were looking for where to step on due to the crowd, the iri-agha dancers/drummers were doing their thing, while the youths continuously shouted “DR. SAM ONWERE WAY, (DOES he have the carriage, Character, charisma?) and they responded “ONWERE WAY (He has the character, carriage, charisma).
While we thought this was the biggest welcome we were receiving, Amuru Abam people surprised us the more! Our convoy was not allowed to move, as mammoth crowd gathered and walked us through to the Chief’s Palace, where over 20 Chiefs were gathered. Listened to us and asked their questions, which was answered to their satisfaction.
On leaving the palace, we went straight to the Amuru Abam Hall, where the teeming crowd of youths, ndi Nne Mama and even children were gathered awaiting us. Their chants were the same as that of the Atan Abam people, only this time, they added some Nguzu-Edda parlance of “DR. SAM GEHE-EGEHE” (Dr. Sam is going there live).
