The Chairman of Action Democratic Party cum her candidate in the 2023 presidential General election, Engr Yabaji Yusuf Sani, has bared his mind concerning a lot of topical national issues bothering on leadership, the way to move Nigeria toward and untapped potential available to the country to make her compete favorably in the committee of nations of the world contrary to her forlorn state of despondent and dependency on oil occasioned by instituted maladministration and lack of political will to make the nation the true pride of Africa.
These assertions were made in over one hour of a detailed interview with select journalists at the Party’s Headquarters in Abuja where he took time to address, elaborate, and answer salient questions about how he is going to turn the fortunes of Nigeria around and steer her from the woods to safe grounds of development, maximum security of lives and properties as well as engendering of enabling environment for healthy competition among federating units of the nation.
When questioned about what he thinks is the selling point of his party and himself as a candidate, he was quick to respond that it is the “Can Do Spirit” that drives his passion and proven antecedents that fuel his determination to make the difference at a time Nigeria is on her crossroads.
He reiterated that Nigeria needs a man with knowledge of the economic dynamics of the nation and how it works, not candidates with belief that their ethnic inclination is their only selling point as has so far been exhibited by the Peoples Democratic Party Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who wants his people to vote for him simply because he is from the north, or the All Progressives Congress candidate, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who wants his people to vote him because “It is his turn”, not necessarily because they have answers and solutions to the challenges confronting Nigeria. He argued that Nigeria has crossed such a precipice of mediocrity in the 21st Century to a point when her qualified men and women should be saddled with the responsibility of making her great again.
“Nigeria needs intellectually sound administrators, not ethnic champions that will end up plunging her deeper into the abyss of disunity and ethnic sentiments that create more fault lines in her diversity when it should be harnessed for her glory”.
Engr Sani also contended that for Nigeria’s Economy to bounce back, a man with true knowledge of international and domestic workings of the economy, albeit, the oil and gas sector should be in charge of the nation. As a man that has worked as a staff and consultant in the oil and gas sector, he has understudied the mechanisms that usher in the propensity to growth because Nigeria is 6th in Oil production in the world and 3rd in Gas Production, a potential that should put her in the pedestal of rocket development, except that insincerity, intolerance, and lack of forgiveness has clogged her opportunities and created artificial wastage in governance at the detriment of her citizens.
He insisted that to tackle the ugly trend, he plans to tackle intentionally instituted oil theft in the Upstream, Mainstream and Downstream sectors of the economy by ensuring that the practice of running an unmetered Oil Sector will end and usher in an era of responsibility, a corruption-free system. He said that as long as the undue advantage remains to enrich a few people, other people from outside will continue to take advantage of our natural resources because Oil Theft was deliberately introduced into our system of exploration to short-change the people.
“Once you introduce a system to meter oil production from the source (the oil wells) to its final destination, you would’ve solved all the crimes associated with oil and curb sabotage of our economy” he explained.
