Aspiring Kampala Lord Mayor, musician Jose Chameleone says he is not leaving National Unity Platform (NUP) and neither will he stop supporting Bobi Wine in his bid to unseat Museveni despite the fact that the party rejected him.
NUP rejected Chameleone partly because his academic papers were questionable, and opted for Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Latif Ssebagala who days later pulled out of the race.
After his nomination as an Independent candidate for mayoral race on Wednesday, Chameleone said he still supports the Kyadondo East MP, real name Robert Kyagulanyi in his campaign to unseat veteran leader Yoweri Museveni, 76, although he (Chamemeleone) also has his personal ambition.
“I was rejected for this race but my supporters said they want me to lead them. I still support Bobi Wine but I also have my personal ambitions. I want you to know that whoever stands in my way will face the power of people,” Chameleone told journalists at the electoral commission regional offices in Ntinda where he, Eriasa Lukwago of the FDC and Nabilah Naggayi Sempala who was chosen to replace Ssebagala in NUP were nominated from.
Chameleone said he was denied a NUP card so he decided to contest as an Independent because he did not want to frustrate the will of the people who have asked him to contest.
“I am still a NUP member much as the party has decided someone else to contest for the same position. I decided to defy the party to come as an Independent after I was denied a card for NUP…The city is not looking for an Opposition leader. It needs a capable leader who will be able to promote development and come up with strategies to create jobs for the youths,” he added
